David Backstrom, N.D.
President, Resort Health Products, Ltd.
While in private practice at Maui's Resort Medical Center, located at
the luxurious Grand Wailea Resort, Hotel & Spa, Dr. Gregory Park discovered
that many of his patients' illness were a direct result of being exposed
to different airborne viruses and other pathogens while in transit, or
shortly after their arrival to their holiday destination. He began to
explore the problem in more detail.
In 1991 he joined forces with David Backstrom, N.D., in an effort to
better understand and combat travel related illness. The result of this
collaboration was the development of Traveler's Formula, a vitamin, mineral
and herbal supplement specifically designed to meet the physiological
demands placed upon travelers. Together, Park and Backstrom formed Resort
Health Products, Ltd. which continues to develop and market safe and effective
supplements for travelers. and individuals with active, stressful lifestyles.
This is a picture of our founder, David Backstrom ND, at 10,023 feet elevation in the world’s largest dormant volcanic crater know as Haleakala (house of the sun)
on the island of Maui. The Hawaiian Kahunas consider this majestic crater to be sacred and was used for spiritual ceremonies and to learn
celestial navigation. Although he is not visible in the photo, David is standing on the crater with his arms outstretched at the center of the rainbow. The rainbow
of light that appears around the shadow of his body is a phenomena know as the “Circle Un Broken”! This picture was the inspiration for our logo.

Director Profiles
DR. GREGORY PARK graduated from Albert Einstein Medical School and specializes
in Internal medicine, medical oncology and primary care. He was formerly
clinical instructor in Medicine at the Los Angeles County Hospital/ University
of Southern California School of Medicine, and began private practice
in Maui in 1980, where he was subsequently named Chief of Staff at Maui
Memorial Hospital. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Cancer Committee
at Maui Memorial from 1987 to 1991.
Dr. Park has operated a private practice at Resort Medical Center, located
in the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, since 1990. He is considered an expert
in nutrition, spa therapies and preventive medicine, and has advised the
Resort on the incorporation and development of various longevity programs
as well as the design of an elaborate treatment facility for their 50,000
square foot Spa Grande.
Dr. Park has been studying preventive medicine and researching vitamins,
minerals, herbs, and drugs that lead to longevity for more than a decade.
He is Vice President of Resort Health Products, Ltd., a nutritional supplement
company featuring vitamin, mineral and herbal treatments and therapies.
DAVID BACKSTROM, N.D. attended Southern Illinois University and received
his Doctor of Naturopathy in 1990.
As president of Resort Health Products, Ltd., he has created a unique
line of supplemental traveling aids sold in Resorts, retail outlets and
sundry shops throughout the country. David Backstrom is also Vice President
of Electro Medical, Inc., a company working with medical clinics that
specialize in sports medicine and preventative wellness programs using
advanced medical computers. Backstrom is certified by the Institute of
Biomolecular Research and Development in the operation of Electro Acuscope
and Myopulse computers. He is presently operating out of the Grand Wailea
Resort, Hotel and Spa's Medical Center as the Director of Natural Healing.
Prior to this position, he traveled throughout North America, Europe
and Asia studying Hydrotherapy, Homeopathy, Body Manipulation, Herbology
and Nutrition. In 1990 and 1991 David was Vice President and Director
of Sales for Health Dynamics International, a parent company creating
spa programs, operational policies, videos, sales programs and equipment.
David is a licensed massage therapist, is certified in Reiki therapy
and has taught yoga and stress reduction courses at the University of
Hawaii and Hawaii Loa college. In addition, he is an accomplished musician,
playing and composing for keyboards and guitar and vocals. He has performed
on Star Search in addition to touring and writing for Dave Mason and Dan
Fogelberg.
